anyway – i’m really tired now and am going to sleep.
Next up, Biochem.
]]>
It’s actually starting to get to me.
arrrgh!
]]>I had a talk with Meirav (FMSA president) the other day, about this whole conflict we’re having with their new need to ‘approve’ my paper. I still feel it’s unnacceptable. I was accused of being childish and not being a team player, and threatened once again with being kicked out of the student association. That’s free speach for you. It turns out that they actually halted the printing and got the printer to send them a copy of the proofs to approve it before it rolled off the press. It was ‘approved’, of course. This still doesn’t resolve the fundamental differences we have here. They are not editors.
Anyway, i’ve gotta get back to studying. I’ll deal with this next year.
]]>Workers are also supposed to be coming to rebuild the stairs to my place. that’ll be really nice – but we’re in Hungary, so i expect that within 1 year, there’ll be nice big cracks in the cement again.

Your goals are well and nice, but your role you have misunderstood! Yes, you are the editor, but if we(Meirav, Danni and me) didnt see the paper before it is released, it is by definition not the FMSA paper. It will be the Peter-paper.
The editor position does not give you the dictatorship of the paper. Look at us as the owners of
the paper if that makes it easier. We shall see the papers before they are released, and no paper that is not approved by all three of us(again; Meirav, Danni and me) shall ever again be released! The paper is representing us, therefore it is important for us to have a strict control over it!
I hope you can understand this, if not I am afraid we will have to find someone else to do this job for us, which we really hope we wouldnt have to!
All the best on your finals!

Misunderstanding of roles about my position as editor of the FMSA newspaper.
The latest (and last for this year) edition of the FMSA newspaper has
been sent to the printers.
This has resulted in a very surprising backlash toward me about not
having it ‘approved’ by the president and vice president(s?) for
publication before it was sent off. I must make my positoin clear that
My current printing guidelines are:
1) to print, verbatim, all articles written and contributed by each
and every fmsa member.
2) to print, with as little editing as possible, all articles written
by any fmsa student so long as their articles fit these guidelines.
3) to discourage anonymous contributions, but not ban them, and
consider them on a case by case basis.
4)) to accommodate, as much as possible, any and all articles by the
administration or staff, should they wish to contribute (ei – like the
notices from the English office that we are asked once in a while to
forward to students).
5) to accommodate, under the full guidance of president and financial
officer, any and all advertising they may have negotiated for the
fmsa.
6) to maintain a level of good taste and humour, without profanity,
and report on events that affect the lives of students at the
university of debrecen medical school, both in and around the school,
particularly FMSA events.
my other goals as editor for next year include
a) a pre-determined publication schedule of roughly 3, 4, or 5
editions per semester. (to be discussed by the fmsa board members)
b) in addition to any other articles you may wish to write, to ask
each fmsa member to write brief mid and end semester report about the
issues and resolutions facing your particular post.
c) to enlist as many student contributors as possible to make this a
true student newspaper. It is my contention that rather than be an
fmsa pamphlet, the fmsa newspaper must play its role as a ’student
newspaper’ facilitated by the FMSA.
it is my firm belief that my strict adherence to these guidelines
(points that i am very receptive to hearing opinions about through
discussion with the FMSA’s other members) removes any further need for
approval of the content of the paper. again – *I* am the editor.
I recognize that my view of the paper’s role may not be shared by
everybody else, but this is the direction in which it will be steered
under my guidance. While another editor may have taken the paper in
another direction, my post was uncontested at the FMSA elections, and
having been awarded the post as incumbent, i fully expect that i be
allowed to continue to run the paper as i deem appropriate.
I look forward to reading your positions on this matter.
Yours,
Well, after a really nice few days with relatives, im back in debrecen – without electricity. I came back to find my place in a total mess (i left it that way – but it really sucks to have a messy place), and to find that my flowers doubled in size on my porch, AND that they ripped the wall open in my WC. There’s some wiring issue, apparently, that had to be fixed before they could re-attach my electricity meters.. total bs, if you ask me – cuz they were on fine before… anyway – there is now construction going on on my place, and a hole in my wall.
I got a letter (well, the address got a letter) that the wheels are in motion, i should have power within 30 days. Yup. a month – i might even be gone by that time – which is great because they’ll hook me up just in time to get me to pay the electrical fees while i dont even live here for the summer. argh…
A MESSAGE TO EGGERT (and anybody else who has a sony-ericsson i700k):
(in response to your comment from the previous post): yeah – there IS a light function- go to the camera/video feature and press 5.
]]>What i mean by LIGHT, is that i just found out, after having this particular mobile phone (sony ericsson i700k, if that happnes to matter to you) for a little under a year now, that it has a flashlight in it – and a very bright one at that! It’s part of the camera function. That’s what you get for letting a 2 year old press all the buttons on your phone. As i think back, there’ve been lots of situations when i definately could have used a light over the past months… and this comes in especially handy with my current situation.

Newsrelease from team ABM Ambro ( http://team.abnamro.com )
Hans Horrevoets, 32, one of the Dutch crew members aboard ABN AMRO TWO, died earlier the morning of 18th may, after being swept overboard from the boat.ABN AMRO TWO was sailing downwind in 25 – 30 knots of wind under main, fractional spinnaker and staysail. Seb Josse, Skipper of ABN AMRO TWO was at the helm, Hans was trimming the spinnaker sheet, Nick Bice, Andrew Lewis and Lucas Brun were also on deck. The boat nosedived down a wave and water came washing back down the deck, when the water cleared Hans was no longer on deck.ABN AMRO TWO Navigator Simon Fisher explained the incident, “Immediately Seb hailed a ‘man overboard’ and we initiated man overboard procedures and put in place the GPS positioning. The boat immediately turned around and began to search for him, meanwhile raising the alarm on shore. After Hans was found he was lifted back on board and the Accident and Emergency(A&E) department at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth, UK was notified that we had a major medical emergency and to stand by. Unfortunaly our attempts to resuscitate him were not successful.”ABN AMRO TWO Skipper Sebastien Josse said, “We are all devastated by the events that took place this morning and all our thoughts are for Hans’ family. Throughout the whole MOB (man overboard) procedure the whole crew handled themselves calmly, professionally and with the utmost maturity. It is with deep regret that we were unable to resuscitate Hans.”Jan Berent Heukensfeldt Jansen, Managing Director of TEAM ABN AMRO said, “We are all shocked and devastated by this terrible news and our thoughts now are very much with Hans’ family. We are all aware of the risks that sailors face but nothing can prepare you for this kind of tragedy. My thoughts are also with the crew who I understand behaved in the most professional manner and reacted immediately and I wish them a safe passage home.”Glenn Bourke, Chief Executive Volvo Ocean Race said, “All of us at the Volvo Ocean Race are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of ABN AMRO TWO crew member Hans Horrevoets. At this time our thoughts are with Hans’ family and friends, his fellow crew members and all the members of TEAM ABN AMRO. Ocean racing carries inherent risks and we do our utmost to minimize those risks with the mandatory safety equipment we have on board. However, when an accident like this occurs it is a shock to everyone associated with the race. The Volvo Ocean Race family is a close-knit community and we will all lend whatever support is needed at this tragic time.”
The crew are no longer in racing mode but are making their way to Portsmouth as quickly as possible and will make a decision on further participation in the race during the Portsmouth stopover.
